SACRUM PROFANUM 2010
Sacrum Profanum Festival is an international project, which within 7 years gained the status of one of the most interesting music events in Europe. The formula of the Festival is based on the presentation of music in reference to the modern motives of sacrum and profanum intersecting one another, as well as the geographic criteria
Particular editions of the festival concentrate around these axes, dedicated to music respectively: of Vienna, France, Russia, USA, German and Great Britain. The festival, recommended among others by the prestigious music magazine “Gramophone” enjoys the acknowledgment of critics and the audience. The headliner of last year’s edition of the Festival was Aphex Twin – which gave two concerts in the tinning factory Arcelor Mittal. Each year the events of the festival are related by reporters from Poland and abroad, in this representatives of such prestigious newsrooms like BBC, The Times, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Die Welt an Mezzo television. A few days ago, Filip Berkowicz – Artistic Director of the Festival and the Krakow Festival Office - the organiser and producer of the Festival were nominated to the award Cultural Guarantees TVP Kultura for “creating festivals Misteria Paschalia and Sacrum Profanum of permanent artistic quality”.
Jón “Jónsi” Þór Birgisson – a guitar player and the vocalist of the Icelandic group Sigur Rós – will be the headliner of the 8th Sacrum Profanum Festival. The artist will perform two concerts – on 17 and 18 September at the chemical tinning plant Arcelor Mittal in Nowa Huta within the framework of the concert tour "Go Tour 2010”. Ticket to both concerts will be in sale from 1 June.
