43rd International Festival of Mountain Folklore in Zakopane, 2011 August 19-26

This is already 43rd International Festival of Mountain Folklore which takes place in Zakopane. If you're in Zakopane or Krakow in this time, you can't miss it!

Although the history of the Festival go back to the 1920, the first International Festival was in 1968 when folk groups from other countries were invited to take part in. Since this time teams from all over the world, especially from Europe, have contended for “The Golden Highlanders Axe”.
This unusually cultural event is an the only one of its kind occasion to discover culture of Highlanders from various region of the World.
There’re many side events during the Festival, for example the Fair of Folk and Craft Art, Open workshop of artists, galleries and museums, Camp fires, Concerts, Movies screening and other.
We’re sure that anyone who’ll take a part won’t be bored and remember this event for years!

18Aug (Thursday)
17:00 Results announcement of the 40th Tadeusz Staich National Literary Contest for a Poem about Mountains /Stefan Żeromski Public Town Library, 1 Zborowskiego Street/.

19Aug (Friday)
11:00 Podhale Carriage Championships and Singing Contest “Śpiew Pytacki” (male singing connected with wedding customs), Competition “Coachman of the Year” /festival village/
14:30 Carriages Parade /lower Rówień Krupowa/
15:00 Folkloric workshops “Podhale regional outfit and its manufacturers”. Practical classes of embroidery and tailoring held by Anna Nędza – Kubiniec and Mateusz Etynkowski /Zakopane Town Hall, conference room, 13 Krupówki Street/.
19: 00 “With Podhale fashion through centuries”. A show of highlander costumes accompanied by Carpathian melodies. The folk tunes will be played by Hanka Rybka and the band /festival tent (entrance paid)/.
